How do we blend the middah of Zehirus, Caution, with positive actions such as spontaneous chessed, flexibility with others, etc.?

Maybe the main idea of zehirus, caution, is awareness - living life with attention to what's going on around us and how it relates to the principles of the Torah. That's the way not to mindlessly fall into the traps of our negative inclination. It will also enhance our ability to respond spontaneously, as we can only respond to something we have realized and haven't missed.
