I learned a lot from this class regarding the different components of kiddush: saying the words, doing it on wine, and tasting the wine, as well as on the 2 components (brachot) of kiddush--on wine and on Shabbat. I found the discussion of differences of opinion regarding d'Oraita and d'Rabbanan interesting. I plan to be particularly careful to say Shabbat Shalom to my family after lighting candles now that I realize that saying that could be considered a fulfillment of my Torah obligation of kiddush! I'm still unclear of the arvut concept with respect to it only referring to men; shouldn't a woman also be responsible for all of Klal Yisrael? If my husband cannot fulfill his D'Rabbanan obligation by my saying kiddush for him (even if my obligation is also only D'Rabbanan), does this also apply to saying HaMotzi? In our household, I usually say HaMotzi for everyone on Shabbat and I am aware of other women who do the same. I'm hoping this answer will become more clear when we learn more about challa and HaMotzi.
