I was relieved to hear that it is okay to eat before formal davening if you've done a small, simple prayer first after doing negel vasser. The added "complication" on Shabbat, of then not being allowed to eat anything before kiddush, made sense. Does this mean though, that, if I want to eat breakfast on Shabbat morning, I can simply make my own kiddush first thing in the morning (after the simple prayer with negel vasser) and then do the rest of the davening when I'm able to, hear kiddush later before lunch and then eat lunch? Also, if that is not done, there is a chance that a person may not hear kiddush before chatzot and would be considered to be fasting--which is not allowed on Shabbat.
The discussion of why less than a usual shiur (3.3 oz) of whiskey is allowed for kiddush, ie. because it is considered a shtiyah chashuva, was interesting but it also seems important to note that this only applies if there is no wine available or if the whiskey is a preferred drink over wine.
I find that Rabbi Isaacson speaks quite quickly and, without source sheets, it is often difficult to follow as well as I might otherwise. I do hope the addition of source sheets is being considered.
