Rabbi Teller mentions that he asked Sir Martin Gilbert the reason why such a large percentag of gentiles turned on the Jews.

I believe he should have also emphasized the well know dictum that- halacha beyuduah sh'esav sonei es yaakov. It is a natural inborn instinct that will only disappear when Mashiach comes.

Our sages say that when the Jews accepted the Torah on Mt. Sinai a natural inborn instinct to hate the Jews was placed among the gentiles. Of course, there are exceptions and there were many gentiles who risked their lives to save Jews during the holocaust but the overwhelming majority of gentiles turned against us.
