It is very hard in the western world to get over the prevailing attitude that the world is a place of cause and effect.  But as we live our lives, we come to realize that many times things just seem to happen no matter how much planning and effort we put into a project.  If we are really honest with ourselves, we have to realize that all we can really do is respond to the situations that Hashem creates for us.

It seems that the Avodah Zara/Terafim attitude is so pervasive in our society today. Rejecting the cause-effect notion seems is as difficult as swimming against the current. But as Mrs. Smiles pointed out, the month of Kislev is infused with a unique power that we can tap into. This makes the challenge although difficult, not impossible. And when we take advantage of the opportunity and Koach of Kislev, it can spill over into the rest of the year!
