Did Hashem communicate with Yehoshua directly before Moshe Rabbeinu gave over the yoke of leadership?  He probably needed a lot of chizuk if he really expected Moshe Rabbeinu's tefila to be answered.  It's such a tremendous responsibility to take over without prior warning.

It is a very powerful idea that Moshe Rabbeinu was able to take in the ma'alot and techunot of Eretz Yisrael just by seeing it.
I wonder how we could make ourselves more sensitive to this, or maybe it is just on the level of a Navi?
