It makes us have a much different focus if we have to actually say "I am from Eretz Yisroel" no matter where one lives. If practiced one can develop such a strong feeling of yearning, identity and pride.  (The goyim have always understood that we are strongly linked to Eretz Yisroel as in "Go back to Palestine" or other antisemitic slurs we've heard throughout our history.) I've always called myself an American - of course Jewish first - but saying that really is a betrayal to E"Y. Wonderful insight.
