The prophet Tzefanyah lived approximately fifty years before the destruction of the First Temple.
According to the Radak, Tzefanyah educated those who sat in the houses of study (batei midrashot), while Yirmiyahu taught the masses and Chulda the prophetess taught the women.
The name Tzefanyah reflects his time and mission: Tzafon refers to the enemy who would come from the north to destroy the Temple. It also hints to the hidden matters that he would reveal to mankind.
