Rav Aharon Kotler was born in 1891 in the Russian town of Svislac. Orphaned at the age of 10, he went to study in the famed Slabodka yeshiva under the leadership of the Alter of Slabodka. With his marriage to the daughter of Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer, he joined his father-in-law in his yeshiva in Slutsk.
