Fast Days
There are four fast days that commemorate the destruction of the beit hamikdash, 3 Tishrei-Tzom Gedalya, 10 Tevet-Asarah B'Tevet, 17 Taamuz-Shiva asar B'Taamuz, and 9 Av- Tisha B'av. The day preceding Purim, 13 Adar is Taanit Esther which commemorates the fast that Mordechai and Esther declared in order to rescind the decree. 10 Tishrei-Yom Kippur, is the holiest day of the year, when Jews around the world gather to fast, repent, and pray for a good new year.
